Byrek recipe
Delicious flaky pastry filled with savory goodness!
Ingredients
- 500 g phyllo dough
- 300 g spinach
- 200 g feta cheese
- 1 unit onion
- 50 ml olive oil
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 unit egg
How to make Byrek
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Chop 1 onion finely and set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add 200 g of spinach to the pan and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes.
- Mix in 150 g of crumbled feta cheese and stir well.
- Season the mixture with ½ teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of black pepper; let it cool for a few minutes.
- Layer 6 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with olive oil before stacking.
- Place the cooled filling along one edge of the phyllo layers.
- Fold the phyllo over the filling and roll tightly, sealing the edges well.
- Place the rolled byrek on a baking sheet and brush the top with olive oil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the pastry is golden and flaky.
