Macaroni pie recipe
A cheesy, comforting delight from Barbados!
Ingredients
- 250 g macaroni
- 200 g cheddar cheese
- 250 ml milk
- 50 g butter
- 2 unit egg
- 1 unit onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
How to make Macaroni pie
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a pot, cook 250 g of macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a pan, melt 30 g of butter over medium heat and sauté 1 chopped onion for about 5 minutes until soft and translucent.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, sautéed onion, 200 g of grated cheddar cheese, 250 ml of milk, 1 beaten egg, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper; mix until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 180°C (350°F) until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the macaroni pie cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow it to set properly. Serve warm.
