Tostones recipe
Crispy twice-fried plantains, a Cuban delight!
Ingredients
- 4 unit green plantains
- 500 ml vegetable oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
How to make Tostones
- Peel 2 large green plantains and slice them into 2-inch pieces, discarding the ends.
- Heat 1 cup of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until hot, about 350°F.
- Carefully fry the plantain pieces for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried plantains from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- Flatten each fried piece to about ½ inch thick using a flat surface like a plate.
- Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil to fry for about 2 minutes until crispy and golden.
- Remove them again and drain excess oil on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with salt and garlic powder to taste and allow to cool slightly before serving.
