How to make Tostones

  1. Peel 2 large green plantains and slice them into 2-inch pieces, discarding the ends.
  2. Heat 1 cup of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until hot, about 350°F.
  3. Carefully fry the plantain pieces for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Remove the fried plantains from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  5. Flatten each fried piece to about ½ inch thick using a flat surface like a plate.
  6. Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil to fry for about 2 minutes until crispy and golden.
  7. Remove them again and drain excess oil on paper towels.
  8. Sprinkle with salt and garlic powder to taste and allow to cool slightly before serving.
