- 600 g cod fillets
- 800 g potatoes
- 200 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 300 ml cold water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1000 ml vegetable oil
How to make Fish and chips
- Peel and cut 3 large potatoes into thick fries. Soak them in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 200 g of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp black pepper thoroughly.
- Gradually stir in 250 ml of cold water into the flour mixture, whisk until a smooth batter forms without lumps.
- Heat 1 liter of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat to 180°C (350°F) for frying.
- Dip 400 g of cod fillets into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Fry the soaked potatoes in the hot oil for 5-6 minutes until crispy and golden, then drain on paper towels.
- Plate the hot fish and chips, serve immediately with your choice of tartar sauce or vinegar.
