Kelewele recipe
Spicy fried plantains that pack a flavorful punch!
Ingredients
- 4 unit ripe plantains
- 250 ml vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp ginger
- 1 tbsp garlic
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp salt
How to make Kelewele
- Peel 4 ripe plantains and cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 2 cm thick.
- In a bowl, combine the plantain pieces with 1 tablespoon of grated ginger, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Heat 500 ml of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes until hot.
- Carefully fry the plantain pieces in batches for 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Allow the kelewele to rest for a minute to cool slightly before serving.
- Serve the kelewele hot as a flavorful snack or side dish on a clean plate.
- Enjoy them immediately for the best taste and texture.
