How to make Kelewele

  1. Peel 4 ripe plantains and cut them into bite-sized pieces, about 2 cm thick.
  2. In a bowl, combine the plantain pieces with 1 tablespoon of grated ginger, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  3. Heat 500 ml of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes until hot.
  4. Carefully fry the plantain pieces in batches for 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried plantains from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  6. Allow the kelewele to rest for a minute to cool slightly before serving.
  7. Serve the kelewele hot as a flavorful snack or side dish on a clean plate.
  8. Enjoy them immediately for the best taste and texture.
