Yassa recipe
A zesty, marinated chicken dish bursting with flavor.
Ingredients
- 800 g chicken
- 3 unit onions
- 2 unit lemons
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 4 unit garlic
- 100 ml vegetable oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 unit bay leaves
- 1 unit hot pepper
How to make Yassa
- In a large bowl, marinate 4 pieces of chicken with the juice of 2 lemons, 2 tablespoons of mustard, and 4 minced garlic cloves for at least 1 hour.
- Slice 2 onions and 1 hot pepper; set them aside after cutting.
- Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add the sliced onions and hot pepper, sautéing until soft, about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the marinated chicken along with the bay leaves to the pan, browning the chicken on all sides for 6-8 minutes.
- Pour in the remaining marinade from the bowl and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cover the pot and cook for 30-40 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
- Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving hot with rice or bread, garnished with sautéed onions.
