Baleada recipe
Deliciously stuffed tortillas, a Honduran classic!
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 ml water
- 400 g refried beans
- 200 g cheese
- 2 unit avocado
- 150 g sour cream
- 50 ml hot sauce
- 1 tsp salt
How to make Baleada
- In a mixing bowl, combine 500 g of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Add 250 ml of water to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal balls, rolling each into a flat tortilla about 0.5 cm thick.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for 1-2 minutes on each side until lightly browned and cooked through.
- Spread 50 g of refried beans evenly on each tortilla. Top with cheese, sliced avocado, and a dollop of sour cream.
- Fold each tortilla in half, pressing gently to seal the fillings inside.
- Arrange on a serving plate and add hot sauce on the side. Serve warm.
