Knafeh recipe
Indulge in this sweet, cheesy Middle Eastern delight!
Ingredients
- 400 g kataifi pastry
- 250 g unsalted cheese
- 100 g butter
- 200 g sugar
- 250 ml water
- 1 tbsp rose water
- 50 g pistachios
How to make Knafeh
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Melt 150 g of butter in a small saucepan over low heat.
- Mix the melted butter with 250 g of shredded kataifi pastry until evenly coated.
- Grease a baking dish with a little melted butter.
- Evenly spread half of the kataifi mixture across the bottom of the dish.
- Layer 200 g of unsalted cheese evenly over the kataifi base.
- Cover the cheese with the remaining kataifi mixture, pressing down gently.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- In a saucepan, combine 250 ml of water and 150 g of sugar.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then remove from heat.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of rose water before pouring it over the hot knafeh.
