How to make Te karaka

  1. Cut 500 g of fresh fish into bite-sized pieces, ideally about 2.5 cm each.
  2. Chop 1 onion finely, then squeeze the juice of 1 lime into a separate bowl.
  3. In a pot, combine the fish pieces, chopped onion, 400 ml of coconut milk, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
  4. Simmer the mixture on low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the fish is opaque and flaky.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt or pepper as needed.
  6. Once cooked, remove from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
  7. Serve the dish hot in individual bowls, garnished as desired with fresh lime wedges.
  8. Enjoy the vibrant flavors and textures of the dish with lime juice on top.
