Jireesh recipe
Savor the rich flavors of traditional Kuwaiti Jireesh.
Ingredients
- 200 g jireesh wheat
- 500 g chicken
- 1 unit onion
- 3 unit garlic
- 1500 ml water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 50 g ghee
- 1 tsp cumin
How to make Jireesh
- Soak 250 g of jireesh wheat in water for 1 hour until expanded fully.
- In a pot, heat 3 tablespoons of ghee over medium heat for about 1 minute.
- Chop 1 onion and mince 2 garlic cloves before adding them to the pot.
- Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until golden for about 5 minutes.
- Add 500 g of chicken to the pot; brown the meat on all sides for about 7 minutes.
- Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper over the chicken.
- Pour in the soaked jireesh along with 4 cups of water, stirring well to combine.
- Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the pot and simmer until the wheat is tender, about 60 minutes.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving hot.
