Machboos recipe
Savor the rich flavors of this traditional Kuwaiti dish.
Ingredients
- 400 g basmati rice
- 800 g chicken
- 2 unit onion
- 2 unit tomato
- 4 unit garlic
- 1 unit cinnamon stick
- 5 unit cardamom pods
- 2 unit bay leaves
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 800 ml water
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
How to make Machboos
- Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat for about 1 minute.
- Chop 1 onion and mince 3 garlic cloves, then add them to the oil in the pot.
- Sauté the chopped onion until golden, about 5 minutes, then add the minced garlic.
- Dice 1 tomato, then add it along with 500 g of chicken to the pot; cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in 1 cinnamon stick, 4 cardamom pods, 2 bay leaves, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt, mixing well.
- Pour in 4 cups of water, bringing to a boil over high heat.
- Once it boils, add 2 cups of basmati rice, stirring to combine, and return to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot; simmer until the rice is tender, about 20-25 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork gently, and serve hot garnished with fried onions.
