Ingredients
- 800 g potatoes
- 400 g ground meat
- 1 unit onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 200 g sour cream
- 50 g butter
- 100 g smoked bacon
How to make Cepelinai
- Boil 1 kg of potatoes in salted water for 30 minutes until soft. Drain and mash until smooth.
- Chop 1 onion finely and set aside. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Sauté the chopped onion in the skillet until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the smooth mashed potatoes, 500 g of ground meat, the sautéed onion, 1 teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper.
- Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon until well combined and uniform in texture.
- With wet hands, form the mixture into oval dumplings about 10 cm long and flatten slightly.
- Place a small piece of smoked bacon in the center of each dumpling before sealing the edges tightly.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil and carefully drop in the formed dumplings.
- Boil the dumplings for 10-15 minutes until they float to the surface, indicating they are cooked.
- Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve hot, garnished with 200 g of sour cream.
