Sel roti recipe
Deliciously crispy rice donuts, a festive treat!
Ingredients
- 500 g rice
- 1000 ml water
- 100 g sugar
- 200 ml milk
- 7 g yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 500 ml oil
How to make Sel roti
- Soak 250 g of rice in water for 4-6 hours; drain completely before using.
- Blend the soaked rice with 500 ml of milk until smooth and creamy consistency is reached.
- Mix in 7 g of yeast and 5 g of salt into the rice mixture; let it rest for 1 hour at room temperature for fermentation.
- Heat 500 ml of oil in a deep pan over medium heat until it shimmers and is hot enough for frying.
- Shape the batter into rings approximately 5 cm in diameter, ensuring they hold their shape as you fry them.
- Carefully place the rings in the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
- Remove the cooked sel roti from the oil and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve the sel roti warm, and enjoy as a snack or a festive treat.
