How to make Bua

  1. Peel and chop 500 g of taro into small pieces, about 2 cm in size.
  2. Boil the chopped taro in enough water to cover for about 20 minutes, until tender.
  3. Drain the taro and transfer it to a bowl to cool slightly.
  4. Mash the taro until smooth using a fork or potato masher.
  5. Mix in 400 ml of coconut milk until well blended and creamy.
  6. Add 100 g of sugar and 3 g of salt, stirring until fully combined.
  7. Slice 2 bananas into thin rounds, being careful not to break them.
  8. Gently fold the banana slices into the taro mixture until just combined.
  9. Pour the mixture into a baking dish, smoothing the top evenly.
  10. Bake at 180°C for 25 minutes, until set and the top is slightly golden.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm or chilled, garnished with extra banana slices if desired.
