Muk recipe
A delicious and hearty Nauruan dish to savor.
Ingredients
- 800 g taro
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 unit banana
How to make Muk
- Peel and chop 500 g of taro into small pieces, about 2 cm in size.
- Boil the chopped taro in salted water for about 20 minutes, until tender.
- Drain the taro and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
- Mash the taro using a fork or potato masher until smooth and creamy.
- Pour in 400 ml of coconut milk, mixing until well combined.
- Add 100 g of sugar and stir until fully incorporated.
- Slice 2 bananas into rounds, avoiding any breaking of the slices.
- Gently fold the banana rounds into the taro mixture with a spatula or spoon.
- Serve the Muk warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
- Garnish with extra banana slices on top if desired, just before serving.
