Halwa recipe
Indulge in the sweet, nutty flavors of Omani halwa!
Ingredients
- 200 g semolina
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g ghee
- 500 ml water
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 pinch saffron
- 50 g mixed nuts
How to make Halwa
- Measure 100 g of ghee and 150 g of semolina before starting.
- In a pot, melt the ghee over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until it's fully liquid.
- Add the semolina to the pot, stirring continuously for about 10-12 minutes until it turns golden brown.
- In a separate pot, measure and bring 500 ml of water to a boil over high heat.
- Dissolve 200 g of sugar into the boiling water, stirring until completely mixed in.
- Add 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder and a pinch of saffron to the sugar water, stirring for a few seconds.
- Carefully pour the sugar mixture into the semolina, stirring it continuously to avoid lumps forming.
- Cook the mixture for 6 to 8 minutes on medium-low heat until it thickens and pulls away from the sides.
- Fold in 100 g of chopped mixed nuts into the thickened mixture, mixing evenly.
- Pour the halwa into a greased dish, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Let the halwa cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting.
- Cut into squares and serve the halwa warm or at room temperature.
