Knafeh recipe
Delight in this sweet, cheesy Middle Eastern treat!
Ingredients
- 400 g kataifi dough
- 100 g unsalted butter
- 250 g ricotta cheese
- 250 g mozzarella cheese
- 200 g sugar
- 250 ml water
- 1 tbsp rose water
- 50 g pistachios
How to make Knafeh
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the knafeh.
- Melt 200 g of unsalted butter in a saucepan over low heat.
- In a large bowl, mix 250 g of kataifi dough with the melted butter until well coated.
- Spread half of the kataifi mixture into a greased baking dish, pressing it down lightly.
- In another bowl, combine 200 g of ricotta cheese and 200 g of mozzarella cheese until smooth.
- Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the kataifi layer in the baking dish.
- Cover the cheese with the remaining kataifi mixture, lightly pressing it down again.
- Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
- In a saucepan, combine 250 ml of water and 200 g of sugar, bringing it to a boil for the syrup.
- Once boiling, stir in 1 tablespoon of rose water and remove the pan from heat.
- After the knafeh is baked, pour the hot syrup over it while still hot.
- Garnish with 50 g of crushed pistachios before serving.
