How to make Sarma

  1. Fill a large pot with salted water and bring it to a boil over high heat.
  2. Immerse the cabbage in the boiling water for 5-7 minutes until the leaves are pliable and can be easily removed.
  3. Remove the cabbage and let it cool slightly before separating the leaves carefully.
  4. In a medium pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat, then add 1 chopped onion.
  5. Sauté the chopped onion for about 5 minutes until it becomes translucent and fragrant.
  6. In a bowl, combine 500 g of ground beef, 150 g of cooked rice, the sautéed onion, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, and 1 teaspoon of paprika, mixing well until combined thoroughly.
  7. Take a cabbage leaf, place about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture at the edge, and roll it tightly while tucking in the sides.
  8. Repeat the rolling process with the remaining leaves and meat mixture until completed.
  9. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam side down in a large pot.
  10. Pour 200 g of tomato paste and 500 ml of vegetable broth over the rolls, covering them evenly.
  11. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 1 hour, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  12. After cooking, serve the sarma warm with additional tomato sauce drizzled on top if desired.
