Deliciously creamy wheat and meat stew, a true delight!
Ingredients
- 200 g wheat
- 500 g lamb
- 1 unit onion
- 1500 ml water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 3 tbsp ghee
How to make Jareesh
- Soak 500 g of wheat in water for 2 hours, then drain the wheat well before cooking.
- Chop 1 onion finely and set it aside for cooking later.
- In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of ghee over medium heat until melted and hot.
- Sauté the chopped onion until it turns golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Add 500 g of lamb pieces to the pot and brown them on all sides, approximately 10 minutes.
- Stir in the soaked wheat, followed by 1.5 liters of water to the pot.
- Season with 1 teaspoon each of salt, black pepper, and cinnamon, stirring well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low to let it simmer for 1.5 hours.
- Check occasionally for tenderness of the wheat and meat, stirring as necessary.
- Once cooked, let it rest off heat for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm in a bowl, optionally garnished with additional ghee.
