How to make Köttbullar

  1. Finely chop 1 onion and sauté it in 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 400 g ground beef, 400 g ground pork, the sautéed onion, 100 g bread crumbs, 100 ml milk, 1 egg, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp pepper. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  3. Form the mixture into small balls, roughly the size of golf balls, by rolling them in your hands.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan over medium heat and add the meatballs, frying them until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Once browned, remove the meatballs from the pan and set them aside on a plate.
  6. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour into the remaining fat in the pan, stirring for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned and combined.
  7. Slowly pour in 500 ml of beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps, allowing the sauce to thicken, about 5 minutes.
  8. Return the meatballs to the pan, cover with a lid, and let simmer for 10 minutes to absorb flavors before serving.
