How to make Foutou

  1. Peel and chop 3 ripe plantains and 500 g of cassava into small chunks for boiling and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat; then add the chopped plantains and cassava.
  3. Cook the plantains and cassava until tender, approximately 20-25 minutes, until easily pierced with a fork.
  4. Drain the plantains and cassava in a colander, allowing excess water to drain well.
  5. Mash the drained plantains and cassava together until completely smooth using a potato masher.
  6. Incorporate 2 tablespoons of palm oil into the mash, mixing until well blended and creamy.
  7. Shape the smooth mixture into balls or transfer to a bowl for serving; keep warm.
