Ingredients
- 800 g plantains
- 400 g cassava
- 500 ml water
- 1 tsp salt
- 50 ml palm oil
How to make Foutou
- Peel and chop 3 ripe plantains and 500 g of cassava into small chunks for boiling and set aside.
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat; then add the chopped plantains and cassava.
- Cook the plantains and cassava until tender, approximately 20-25 minutes, until easily pierced with a fork.
- Drain the plantains and cassava in a colander, allowing excess water to drain well.
- Mash the drained plantains and cassava together until completely smooth using a potato masher.
- Incorporate 2 tablespoons of palm oil into the mash, mixing until well blended and creamy.
- Shape the smooth mixture into balls or transfer to a bowl for serving; keep warm.
- Enjoy the foutou irregularly with your favorite sauce or stew for a delightful meal.
