Osh recipe
Savor the rich flavors of traditional Uzbek rice dish.
Ingredients
- 400 g long-grain rice
- 500 g lamb
- 200 g carrots
- 100 g onion
- 4 unit garlic
- 100 ml vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 800 ml water
How to make Osh
- Before starting, chop 1 onion and 2 carrots, measuring 500 grams of lamb and 750 milliliters of water.
- In a large pot, heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until hot.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in 500 grams of diced lamb and cook until browned on all sides, around 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add the sliced carrots and continue to sauté for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Mix in 4 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper; stir well to combine.
- Pour in 750 milliliters of water and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Add 300 grams of long-grain rice to the boiling mixture and stir gently to combine.
- Cover the pot, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 20-25 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- Turn off the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
