Palusami recipe
Savory coconut and taro wrapped in banana leaves.
Ingredients
- 500 g taro
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 4 unit banana leaves
- 1 unit onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
How to make Palusami
- Peel and chop 400 g of taro into small pieces about 1 cm each for even cooking.
- Place the chopped taro in a pot and boil it in water over medium heat until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the taro once tender then mash it in a bowl until smooth and creamy in texture.
- In the bowl, mix the mashed taro with 200 ml of coconut milk, 1 chopped onion, 1 tsp of salt, and 1/2 tsp of pepper.
- Lay out banana leaves on a flat surface and cut them into squares suitable for folding.
- Place a generous spoonful of the taro mixture in the center of each banana leaf square and fold it securely.
- Steam the wrapped parcels over boiling water for about 60 minutes until heated through and fragrant.
- Remove the parcels from the steamer, serve hot, and enjoy the rich flavors of Palusami.
