Batar daan recipe
A flavorful Timorese dish with a delightful twist!
Ingredients
- 800 g chicken
- 200 g onion
- 10 g garlic
- 10 g ginger
- 400 ml coconut milk
- 5 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 limes
How to make Batar daan
- Chop 1 onion, 3 cloves of garlic, and 1 inch of ginger into small pieces to prepare for cooking.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat until shimmering, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chopped onion to the pot and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
- Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until aromatic.
- Add 500 grams of chicken pieces, cooking and turning occasionally until browned on all sides for about 8 minutes.
- Season with 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of pepper, mixing well.
- Pour in 400 milliliters of coconut milk and stir to combine all ingredients.
- Simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and allow to rest for a few minutes for flavors to meld.
- Serve the dish hot in a bowl, with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over.
