Soup joumou recipe
A hearty Haitian pumpkin soup to warm your soul.
Ingredients
- 500 g pumpkin
- 300 g beef
- 150 g carrots
- 100 g celery
- 1 onion
- 3 garlic
- 1 tbsp thyme
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 water
How to make Soup joumou
- Peel and cube approximately 1 kg of pumpkin and set aside in a bowl.
- In a large pot over medium heat, brown 300 g of beef with 1 chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves for about 5 minutes.
- Add the cubed pumpkin, 2 chopped carrots, and 2 chopped celery stalks into the pot with 1 teaspoon of thyme.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper, mixing everything together well.
- Pour in 2 liters of water and bring to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it simmer for 30 minutes.
- After cooking, use an immersion blender to blend the soup until smooth and creamy.
- Serve hot in bowls and enjoy your meal.
