Ingredients
- 250 g elbow macaroni
- 200 g cheddar cheese
- 500 ml milk
- 50 g butter
- 30 g flour
- 50 g bread crumbs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
How to make Baked mac and cheese
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Boil 250 g of elbow macaroni in salted water until al dente for 8-10 minutes, then drain.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 50 g of butter until it sizzles.
- Whisk in 30 g of flour with the melted butter for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
- Gradually pour in 500 ml of milk while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Stir 200 g of cheddar cheese into the thickened mixture until fully melted and smooth.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, mixing well to coat evenly.
- Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, blending thoroughly.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- Sprinkle 50 g of bread crumbs on top of the mac and cheese evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
